The Road Map
We're nowhere near an MVP, but we want to build in public. It's not our style to plan ahead too much, honestly.
We've both been burned too much by working in a traditional office setting where plans were sacred, but never came true. Agile, schmagile.
The first iteration
This is what our current goals are for the first iteration:
- create the website with the design direction we both like and want to continue with. You can see the design already and as you can tell, we both like the brutalist design.
- content-wise, we don't have a lot yet. We mostly have meta-information right now: the intention of what we want to build. An explanation of what Healthy Living for Desk Dwellers is going to be. That's why we want to test our idea by inviting people to sign-up already. This is the goal for the first iteration, functionality wise: people should be able to join by pledging their interest.
- share our idea and mission on the socials, so we can actually test this loop. The outcome is hopefully a lot of sign-ups! (Three cheers for our wishful thinking)
At the time of writing, end of May 2024, we are almost done with the first iteration. Oliver is implementing the last bits of the design. We still have to make a so-called "Twitter card", so sharing our website to the socials will automatically come with a nice looking image.
Next iteration
Maaike is already working on the contents of the on-boarding free mini-course. We haven't decided yet how we're going to distribute the information after sign-up. The main options are: e-mail or the forum.
The next big technological challenge is going to be the forum. This is absolutely critical for our mission, though, so we feel it's an obvious next step. We will self-host an implementation of Discourse.
With the forum in place, we can actually start with the goal of the community: help desk dwellers live healthier lives. The forum is going to be our town square. We will run our initiatives from there. Think: specific topics, theme weeks, stuff like that. Of course, there'll also be room to just chit-chat about whatever.
With the forum in place, we feel like we have an MVP.
But you know what, maybe we are wrong! We structure our work in short sprints of 3 days, so we are open for emerging thoughts and insights.
Because, from the bottom of our hearts: SCREW insanely detailed plans that stretch way too far in the future. A plan only survives until first contact with the enemy.
